ABOUT

It All Started by Digging a Trench for a Friend

We never would have expected this to take off so fast, and we are so humbled and blessed that it did. It all started right before the big housing and population growth that Modesto saw in 2005. Tom was working as a lead contract engineer for a major construction company in Salida at the time, and John had just purchased a backhoe for excavating some land he'd just purchased near Riverbank. The two of them had been friends through church for years, and John needed some help. After several months of working together on John's land and getting familiar with running a backhoe, they began getting calls from other friends and neighbors needing similar pipeline trenches. This soon became a sidehustle job on the side, and the orders started pouring in.

Soon Tom quit his job at a contractor to support the new business full time. A company was born in 2008 to fulfill the excavation needs in the area, and John went from retirement to running backhoes and calling on clients. "Both of our family's lives changed within a very short time, and we couldn't have ever predicted how fast we grew into this," John says. Now the family operated business is growing and flourishing, employing local workers, coordinating with outside contractors, and helping change the earth of Modesto and surrounding area one shovel at a time.
